The "Single Cut " (or "Eight Cut") is the original classic cut in Diamonds. It has a rounded structure with an octagon shaped table and eight facets on the crown and eight facets on the pavilion plus the table and culet, totaling 18 facets altogether.

Most small diamonds for use in popular jewelry are usually Single Cut because smaller diamonds require fewer facets. Diamonds in star/melee range as these are called are mainly used as accent stone in diamond jewelry and as luxury clothing accessories for pronounced glamour and value addition.

In pave´ style jewelry, numerous small diamonds mounted close together create a glittering diamond crust that covers the whole piece of jewelry and obscures the metal under it.
